We Felt Infinite Part 2

September 28, 2012

The awarding ceremony begins at 1:00 pm up to 5:00 pm, we also have a seminar conducted by the GMA News TV for their 'Learniversity' program. I don't want to throw away the opportunity to learn more about the "real world" of broadcasting when the speaker is one of the prime broadcasters in the country, Ms. Kara David. On our college, various entries from of silent films from all junior broadcasting students are being watched in our college's lobby. Updates are just given to me by my friends who didn't attend the seminar.

When the seminar ended, my friends and I rushed back to our college to join the festivity. Our entry was the last to be watched. Good thing we arrived before our film was played. Then it began, our entry was being played. I felt uneasy sitting there watching it. There is like something inside me that wants to come out. At the end the people clapped and our team cheered. What annoys me is this girl who won't stop talking and bashing our film. She kept on asking questions but she's not even watching. Seriously? Watch so you won't ask!

Then, the moment of truth, the awarding of the entries of this year's 'Sshh... Silent Short Film Festival.' At this point I became more uneasy. My team and friends kept on shouting the title of our film. I even told them that if we don't get an award we would definitely be speechless. Speechless because we were too noisy at that time that if we don't get an award we will feel little. When the head of FILAC started awarding, all were quiet. The first award to be given was 'The Best Screenplay,' it was a tie between III-1D and our section's other entry "Walley." I am so happy because they belong to same class as I am. The second award was 'Best Cinematography.' "The Best Cinematography goes to..." "BBrC III-2, JIGSAW!" I landed on my feet, started jumping and screaming. It was epic! I received the award because I thought it will be the only award we'll get.

But then, we took home 7 major awards including:

Best Picture
Best Cinematography
Best Sound
Best Editing
Best Production Design
Best Poster
Best Director

The most special award given to me that night was Best Director and Best Picture! The moment was epic! I swear, the feeling was indescribable, when you are standing there in front of the crowd with your team cheering, holding those precious awards, smiles on their faces, and that very moment when everything is priceless. I didn't even care what I look like all that matters is that precise moment. God has blessed us so much. Best Actor and Best Actress were awarded to my classmates from the other prod team. It was definitely our section's night! The only award that our section didn't get? People's Choice Award. But that's OK, what's People's Choice Award compared to all major awards right?

To God be the glory for all the great things He has done!

I had the privilege to direct a short silent film for our final requirement in our Film Appreciation subject. This film will also be one of the entries from our section for the 'Sshh... Short Silent Film Festival.' We started late in doing this film, with only two days allotted for shooting and five days for editing, I must say that our production team definitely did a great job . We had problems and shortcomings in making this film but upon seeing the product, I just thought that we have a good chance.

Entries were then submitted to the Film Aficionados Circle's office (FILAC) and they told us that we have to post our teaser in their page and the teaser which gets the most 'likes' on Facebook wins the People's Choice Award. Our production team were really competitive, awarding will be on the 28th of September and we have no time to lose. Each of the class helped in getting 'likes' and every inch of shame and pride were put aside. I heard that there were a lot of good entries. I told my team that winning the People's Choice Award would be enough and if we get more awards it would just be God's bonus for all our efforts. That night before the canvassing of 'likes' on Facebook, we were on a tight race with an another entry. It was really, really maddening! It was like we're on the lead then after an hour it's them, then us, then them. The good thing about this one is that we didn't quit, yeah sure we felt down, but we won't waste all our efforts by just quitting.

Before going to sleep that night, I prayed to God that whatever happens to tomorrow's awarding, I will gladly accept it because it's His will.

A Thousand Piece of a Panda

The past few days my friends and I were shooting a silent film. One of the props that we used is a bag of jigsaw puzzles, one thousand to be exact, when completed turns out to be a panda. At home, we actually completed a 500 and 750 piece of puzzle many years back. When I was trying to look for the completed jigsaw puzzles, mom told me that she has already thrown it. Seriously? It's quite frustrating that those jigsaw puzzles, which took weeks to be completed, were put in a waste. Anyway, I'm in a project to complete a thousand piece of jigsaw puzzle.

So this is what it should look like

It looks creepY here, I tried to separate it by color to make the work easier.

I am not a patient person. Also, I hate waiting. I'm actually having double thoughts whether to start this or not because it might get me frustrated. I'm just going to do this on my free time, so if I get frustrated I'll just sleep. Who knows? Maybe I'll overcome being impatient.

You can see here that the edges are done

So last night I started doing the edges which took me 1 or 2 hours before it's done. Today I tried to slowly fill it up but it's really hard. I asked help fROm my brother and we're not even done by up to 7-10%. A thousand piece of jigsaw puzzle is really mind blowing. I'm also doing this on the floor because it takes a lot of space. I'm planning to do this on a Styrofoam but I don't have yet. This is also not the type of jigsaw puzzles that comes with a guide, the cardboard thing where you put the piece.

So far I'm enjoying and I wish to finish this around the third or fourth week of October.

The Tale of the Three Brothers

There were three brothers who set foot to a journey. On their way, they reached a river so treacherous to pass. The river took lives of the people who dared to pass it. Luckily the three brothers, armed with magic, waved their wands and started to create a bridge. One by one they crossed the river and landed on the other part of the land unharmed. Just as they were to continue their journey, Death appeared. He felt cheated. He was supposed to take their lives in this river and bring their soul into the underworld. Death had an idea and tried to trick the three brothers. He offered them anything they want and Death would give it to them gladly. The eldest brother, asked for the most powerful wand ever made. Death reached under his cloaked and revealed the most powerful wand ever made. The eldest brother took it proudly and went on his way. Next, the second brother moved closer to Death and asked for something that could make a dead person alive again. Death raised his hand and took a stone from the river and turned it into an orb. It is an orb that can raise the dead. The second brother took it gladly and went on his way. The youngest brother, also the most humble, asked that he could not be followed by Death in all the years of his life. Death took a part of his cloak and turned it into a robe, that when the youngest wears, Death could not see him. The youngest brother took it humbly and went on his way.

The eldest brother, who is so proud, boasts his power after killing a powerful wizard. But that night he was killed in an inn while he was sleeping after another wizard heard about his story and took away with him the most powerful wand. Death finally came and took his soul. The second brother resurrected his first love after her unexpected death. Sorrow filled their home. Day and night her love cried. She doesn’t belong here. The second brother almost lost his mind. He killed himself; at least she could be with her love once again in the underworld. That night he met Death again. Death felt a pinch of happiness, his trick is working. He knew in himself that no one could ever cheat Death.

A lot of years have passed but Death could not find the youngest brother. He searched far and wide. No way could Death be cheated. The youngest brother, who lives in a small town and aged by life, gave the robe that he’s wearing to his beloved son. He finally ended Death’s search. The youngest brother greeted Death like his old friend and went with him gladly.

This is my version, not as good as what is shown in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie. You can watch the clip HERE. From the comments on the video, some say it teaches wisdom and humility. There is a comment that said that Voldemort is the first brother who died for power. The second brother is Severus Snape who died for love. And the youngest brother, Harry Potter, who greeted Death as his old friend.

A Date with Sissy

This post should have been published weeks ago. I just don't have the time.

August 31, 2012

It’s the last day of the month and I’m really looking forward to September. Before this month ends, my friends and I are going out. Mariel, Vino, Efra and I are going to meet our dear friend Sissy. We met Sissy few months ago in work. We really enjoyed Sissy’s company. She’s like a big sister to us. And I’m really excited to see her after months of not seeing each other.

Mariel and Sissy

We are actually going to meet her at SM Mall of Asia. We decided to ride the train; it’s not only fast but also cheap. We left Sta. Mesa around 1:20 and arrived in MOA around 2:00. I told you its fast.

We were kind of early, I think, because Sissy came 30 minutes after. We had our lunch at Congo Grille and just shared stories. I love that feeling when you met someone after a long time and you just kept on updating each other about what happened to your lives. I think we talked for like an hour or two. I’m not sure. We decided to take a walk and go to Seaside Boulevard. MOA has changed a lot from the last time I went here.

Vino, Me and Ef

The seaside looked like a small amusement park. It’s great, actually. The weather is totally fine, it’s not and definitely not raining. It’s just right. Our group date is perfectly timed. We wanted to try the MOA Eye (MOA’s Ferris wheel) but it’s kind of pricy. 175php is too much for a 1 cycle ride. But we saw another ride, I forgot the name but it resembles ‘Anchor’s Way’ and ‘Viking’. The ride costs 100php for a 10 minute ride. I think it’s reasonable and it doesn’t matter if you’re only five riding. If you’re ready, they’re ready. They won’t wait for other riders, which is kind of cool because you can own the ride! Sissy paid the half amount of our ride. While waiting on our turn we watched four people riding. It’s funny! They’re controlling their emotions trying hard not to look stupid. But it actually makes you look stupid. My friends and I decide to let loose and enjoy the moment and the ride.

Sunset at Seaside Boulevard
Behind us is the MOA Eye
Kinda windy. Us before getting in the ride.

Forgot the name, but it resembles Anchor's Away and Viking.

It’s my first time to ride again for a long time. I must say, I totally enjoyed this one. It was a great stress reliever. It’s the best way to unwind after doing so much school works and thinking a lot.

We were all dizzy after the ride and even have to share two pieces of candy. We rested for a while and took pictures while waiting for Sissy’s husband- Sir JV.  He was our trainer at work last summer. He was with their children too- Issa and Caleb.

It’s a little awkward for me when Sir. JV came. But I’m with my friends so I still felt okay. For dinner we ate at Aling Tonyang’s. In this resto, you buy seafood or other meat from a nearby wet market and they’ll cook this for you. I don’t eat seafood. I mean, there are a lot of rules when it comes to food to eat. But I do eat fish, but not all kinds of fish. Anyway I ate Tilapia this time. LOL! And they ate buttered crabs, shrimp tempura and squid. They even tried tempting me, but I won’t fall for it. It’s been like 8 or 9 years so I’m kind of used to it. Actually, Sissy is allergic to seafood. But she really loves it. She loves breaking her own rules I must say.

It’s getting late and their kids are quite sleepy so we started saying our goodbyes and parted ways. Sissy and Sir JV were very generous so I really want to thank them. This has been a great day for all of us and I’m very grateful for the experience.

Certified Outstanding College's 11th Foundation Celebration

The PUP-COC is celebrating its 11th year founding anniversary. It started last August 29 and will last up until September 11, 2012. Let me give you a short background of the C-ertified O-utstanding C-ollege of P.U.P. It was formerly known as the College of Languages and Mass Communication until separation in 2001, which gave birth to what is now the College of Communication. Also, "COC bears the distinction of being the first communication school in the country to have achieved Level III Accredited Status as awarded by the AACCUP. This recognition was achieved by the College in 2008 for its two programs - Broadcast Communication and Journalism. Its Communication Research program, initially offered in 2006, is equally competitive as it responds to the needs of the media and communication industry." Our college also offers academic programs, such as, Bachelor in Journalism (BJ), Bachelor on Broadcast Communication (BBrC) and Bachelor in Communication Research (BCR).

On August 29, a mass is held in the college's lobby to thank God for 11 wonderful years of the college. The 2nd and 3rd day were open to all students led by different organizations of the college.

Schedule of Events

To be honest I really didn't enjoy the first few days of COC week. It's like no one participated. It was boring. It's already my junior year in college and I must say that the last 2 years were amazing. The booths were empty; nobody was there except students who has class and people organizing events. 4 different musics were being played at the same time by the college's radio station, the karaoke booth of COC ensemble and music from the inside and outside of the college.

In twitter, some say it's better to spend COC week at home. Some say that they don't feel it.

Look at how happy we are!

COC started weak. I hope that as the days push through it will come out strong!
